ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology is dedicated to the dissemination of research within fundamental and applied areas of solid state science and technology, including experimental and theoretical aspects of the chemistry and physics of materials and devices.
New in 2012
ECS has been long-heralded as the nonprofit home of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES), its flagship journal. Published continuously from 1902 to the present, JES remains one of the most-highly cited journals in electrochemistry.
In 2012, ECS is launching three new scholarly, peer-reviewed scientific journals, positioned to join JES as leaders in the field. First issues of the new journals are scheduled to be published in print in mid-2012, and the first articles will be available online in early summer.
For close to 110 years ECS has recognized the need for researchers to publish technical content with a timely turnaround and have access to resources dedicated to their studies. Now, to further enhance its mission to encourage research and dissemination of knowledge, ECS has developed two distinct publication channels for scholarly research, Solid State Science & Technology and Electrochemical Science & Technology, each to include a traditional and a rapid-publication journal.
Publications within the Solid State Science & Technology area include the full-length ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology and the rapid-publication ECS Solid State Letters, which will replace Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters (ESL). (ESL will be published through issue 6 of the 2012 volume and then archived in the ECS Digital Library.)
Adding to the depth of the ECS Digital Library, each journal will feature:
Targeted research and technical content areas.
Immediate and wide dissemination of content to more than 1,000 academic, research, and corporate libraries worldwide, as well as individuals.
No publication charges.

ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology (JSS), a peer-reviewed journal developed to focus on high-quality technical content that has a major impact on science and discovery, publishes original manuscripts in fundamental and applied areas of solid state science and technology, including experimental and theoretical aspects of the chemistry and physics of materials and devices. Full papers, review articles, and themed issues that focus on high impact topics are encouraged
Technical Interest Areas
Papers are selected by a prestigious group of Technical Editors, responsible for the following interest areas:
Carbon Nanostructures and Devices
Dielectric Science and Materials
Electronic Materials and Processing
Electronic and Photonic Devices and Systems
Luminescence and Display Materials, Devices, and Processing
Of particular interest are the areas of solid state materials and device processing as they relate to the establishment of electrical, optical, physical and chemical properties, the relationship of material properties to device properties, the process science and technology of materials and devices, and the characterization of bulk materials, thin films, interfaces, surfaces, and devices.
Specific topics of interest to JSS are nanostructures, semiconductors, metals, dielectrics, polymers, electronics, photonics, magnetics, and luminescence, along with related processing methods such as material patterning, growth and deposition, and surface cleaning, functionalization, modification, and polishing. Device interests include biomedical, sensors, MEMS, NEMS, reliability, displays, and photovoltaics.
Remaining a nonprofit organization, The Electrochemical Society adds JSS to its publications’ canon, to join its flagship journal, the Journal of The Electrochemical Society, as well as ECS Solid State Letters and ECS Electrochemistry Letters.
