Fundamental research into the chemical sciences has been central to many breakthroughs and innovations in technology, medicine, transportation, and more, especially over the past several decades. Even so, the impact of fundamental chemical research on the U.S. economy is difficult to fully understand. The soon-to-be-released report, The Importance of Chemical Research on the U.S. Economy, examines key areas of research as well as the broader chemical enterprise, and provides guidance to funders, researchers, educators, and industry professionals on what to prioritize to enhance the chemical economy.
