Olin Palladium Award

palladium-webThe Olin Palladium Award was established in 1950 for distinguished contributions to the field of electrochemical or corrosion science.

Eligibility criteria

The recipient is distinguished for:

  • Contributions to the field of electrochemical or corrosion science;
  • Outstanding contributions to the fundamental understanding of all types of electrochemical and corrosion phenomena and processes;
  • Membership in The Electrochemical Society is not a requirement. 
Nomination guidelines

Nominations, once submitted, are considered in effect for two consecutive award cycles. 

A complete nomination package includes:

  • Completed Electronic Nomination Form
  • At least two, but no more than five supporting letters (one page in length)
  • Additional documents that may be included:

– Candidate’s curriculum vitae
– Publications list
– Other pertinent information that supports and strengthens the candidate’s nomination

Award

The award consists:

  • Palladium medal with the recipient’s name;
  • Plaque with the recipient’s name bearing a bronze replica of the medal;
  • USD $7,500;
  • Complimentary meeting registration for the award recipient and companion;
  • Dinner held in the recipient’s honor during the designated meeting;
  • Life Membership in the Society.

The recipient receives the award at a designated Society meeting.

Recipient obligations

At the designated ECS meeting, the recipient delivers a general address on a subject related to the contributions for which the award is presented.

About the Olin Palladium Award

The ECS Olin Palladium Award was established in 1950 with funds from royalties from the sale of Herbert H. Uhlig’s Corrosion Handbook. Prof. Uhlig served as Editor-in-Chief of the handbook which was sponsored and largely written by members active in the ECS Corrosion Division.
