Georgia Section Outstanding Student Achievement Award

The Georgia Section Outstanding Student Achievement Award was established in 2011 to recognize academic accomplishments in any area of science or engineering in which electrochemical and/or solid state science and technology is the central consideration.

Recipient qualifications

The recipient must be a student who is pursuing a PhD at a university within the Georgia Section and be nominated by a university faculty member. The student must be a member of ECS at the time of the nomination.

Nomination Submissions

Candidates shall be nominated by a university faculty member.

The complete nomination package will include:

  • Completed electronic nomination form
  • curriculum vitae for the student, listing publications, work experiences, date of previous degrees, and expected graduation date. The student must be enrolled in a Georgia Section University for the full year in which the nomination is made and awarded as a full-time graduate student.
  • A letter of recommendation from the nominating professor, which should outline the student’s strengths and weaknesses. lt should answer the question: “Why do you wish to single out this student for the award?” The criterion for nomination is the excellence of the student’s research accomplishments. Copies of university transcripts are not required.
  • A brief (1 to 2 double-spaced typed pages) outline of the proposed and completed research project, written by the student. A copy of two journal reprints or preprints from the student should be included, if the student has written journal papers.
Award

The award consists of a US $500 prize. The recipient may be requested to speak on a subject of major interest to him/her in the field of electrochemical and/or solid state science and technology at the Section meeting that the award is being presented..
