The ECS High-Temperature Energy, Materials, & Processes Division J. Bruce Wagner, Jr. Young Investigator Award was established in 1998 to recognize a young Society member who has demonstrated exceptional promise for a successful career in science and/or technology in the field of high-temperature energy, materials, and processes.
Eligibility criteria
- Society membership in good standing for at least two years prior to the date of nomination;
- Nominee’s 40th birthday may not precede April 1 of the year in which the award is made;
- Evidence of exceptional promise as seen in a body of scientific or technical work judged to have significant, positive, and long-lasting impact in the area relevant to high-temperature energy, materials and/or processes;
- Body of work presented may include books, patents, and publications, one of which was published in the Journal of The Electrochemical Society.
Nomination guidelines
Self nominations are not accepted.
A complete nomination packet includes:
- A completed electronic nomination form;
- The candidate’s curriculum vitae including a list of publications (and relevant pre-prints);
- A letter of nomination including a summary of the nominee’s research activities and
accomplishments as well as Society involvement; - At least two reference letters (not including the nomination);
- Any other pertinent information that might assist the members of the Awards Committee in assessing the candidate may be submitted.
Award
The award consists of:
- Scroll;
- USD $1,000 ;
- Complimentary meeting registration (if necessary);
- Up to USD $1,000 in meeting travel expenses.
Recipient obligations
The award recipient presents a keynote talk at an ECS H-TEMP Division-sponsored symposium when the award is given.
About J. Bruce Wagner, Jr.
J. Bruce Wagner, Jr. was a distinguished chemistry professor and researcher who taught at Pennsylvania State University, Yale University, Northwestern University, and Arizona State University. The author of more than 100 technical papers was an active ECS member for over 40 years and served as President from 1983-1984.
