Nanocarbons SES Research Young Investigator Award

Nomination period: March 15 – June 15, odd years
Presented: ECS spring meeting, even years

The ECS Nanocarbons Division SES Research Young Investigator Award was established in 2007 to recognize and reward outstanding young researchers in the field of fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, and nanostructures (FNCN). Such early recognition of highly qualified scientists is intended to encourage especially promising researchers to remain active in the field. The award is named after the endowment’s main contributor, SES Research.

Eligibility criteria
  • Active members of ECS and the ECS Nanocarbons Division;
  • 38 years old or younger as of the nomination deadline;
  • Has made outstanding achievements in, or scientific contribution to, nanocarbon science.
Nomination guidelines

A nominee’s mentor or anyone familiar with nominee’s research may nominate.

The complete nomination package includes:

  • Completed Electronic Nomination Form;
  • Summary of nominee’s research activities and accomplishments outlining in two to three double-spaced pages the most important aspects of the work and resulting contributions to NANO science and technology;
  • List of nominee’s publications, reports, memberships, and involvement with scientific societies, awards received, and other related items;
  • Three to five letters of support from experts in the field;
  • Any other pertinent information to assist the award committee in assessing the candidate.

Unsuccessful nominations will be considered for one additional award cycle as long as eligibility remains.

Nanocarbons SES Research Young Investigator Award Committee members may not submit nominations or letters of support during their terms of service on the committee.

Award

The award consists of:

  • Scroll;
  • USD $500;
  • Complimentary registration for the meeting when the award is presented.
Recipient obligations

The award recipient presents a lecture on their research at an ECS Nanocarbons Division symposia at the Society’s spring meeting where the award is presented.
