Lubomyr Romankiw started at IBM in 1962. He is an IBM Fellow and researcher at IBM’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center, a member of the IBM Academy of Technology, co-inventor of over 65 U.S. patents, author of 150 papers, and member of the U.S. National Inventor’s Hall of Fame.
He is most noted for the development of a magnetic thin-film disk storage technology and the read-and-write magnetic head that revolutionized storage for all types of machines, from supercomputers to mobile devices.
Romankiw is a Fellow of ECS, honorary ECS member, and an ECS Vittorio de Nora Award winner.
