The award recognizes authors who have made noteworthy scientific contributions and enhanced the scientific stature of the Society by the presentation of well-received papers in the journal and at Society meetings. ECS would like to congratulate the 2019 Outstanding Student Chapter winner, the University of Calgary for their dedication and commitment to the advancement of solid state and electrochemical science and technology.

The Outstanding Student Chapter Award was established in 2012 to recognize distinguished student chapters that demonstrate active participation in The Electrochemical Society’s technical activities, establish community and outreach activities in the areas of electrochemical and solid state science and engineering education, and create and maintain a robust membership base.

The University of Calgary has become one of ECS’s most exemplary chapters. The chapter will receive $1,000 for student chapter funding and a recognition plaque as well as recognition in Interface for their hard work. (more…)

Minkyu Kim is the 2019 winner of the ECS Korea Section Student Award

The ECS Korea Section Student Award was established in 2005 to recognize academic accomplishments in any area of science or engineering in which electrochemical and/or solid state science and technology is the central consideration. To qualify for this award, applicants must (1) be a student who is pursuing a PhD at a Korean University, (2) be nominated by a university faculty member and (3) be a member of ECS at the time of the nomination. Congratulations to Edouard Asselin on winning the 2019 ECS Canada Section Lash Miller Award

The ECS Canada Section has four awards within the recognition program. The Canada Section W. Lash Miller Award was established in 1967 to recognize publications and/or excellence in the field of electrochemical science and technology and/or solid state science and technology. The recipient must have demonstrated independent research in academia, industry or governmental laboratories in the mentioned technical areas. The recipient will be a Canada resident who has obtained his/her last advanced education degree no more than 15 years before the year of the award. (more…)

Young students entering the science field take on a significant amount of new material and learning in the classrooms, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn just as much from them, too! ECS student chapters, ran and created by students themselves, inspire us every day. Their remarkable accomplishments and contributions to the Society not only help guide and encourage talented scientists and engineers around them but also contribute to the future and growth of the sciences.

That’s why in 2012, the Society established the ECS Outstanding Student Chapter Award to recognize distinguished student chapters that demonstrate active participation in ECS’s technical activities. That means chapters that have initiated outreach activities, coordinated community events, and created and maintained a robust membership base.

The S.K. Rangarajan Graduate Student Award was established in 2017 to assist a deserving student in India to pursue a career in disciplines related to electrochemistry and solid state science and technology. The award consists of a certificate, a $500 (US) prize, and a complimentary one-year ECS membership. Each year, the section recognizes the award winner at its acclaimed India School which is a weeklong teaching program in electrochemistry for young researchers. The recipient may be invited to speak at that meeting about his or her work or on another topic of interest to the mentioned field. (more…)

Don’t Discount the Honorable Mention!

The second 2018 San Francisco Section Daniel Cubicciotti Student Award (Honorable Mention) Goes to Sara Renfrew!

Each year, the ECS San Francisco Section recognizes a deserving undergraduate student from a college or university in Northern California through the San Francisco Section Daniel Cubicciotti Student Award. The award was established in 1994 to assist a deserving student to pursue a career in the physical sciences or engineering and to honor distinguished researcher Daniel Cubicciotti. First prize recipients receive an etched metal plaque and $2,000 prize. In addition, the San Francisco section recognizes up to two additional students with an honorable mention: a framed certificate and a $500 prize. (more…)

ECS is accepting nominations for the Vittorio de Nora Award

Application Deadline: April 15, 2019

The Vittorio de Nora Award was established in 1971 to recognize distinguished contributions to the field of electrochemical engineering and technology.

The award consists of a gold medal and a plaque that contains a bronze replica thereof, both bearing the recipient’s name, a $7,500 prize, complimentary meeting registration for award recipient and companion, a dinner held in recipient’s honor during the designated meeting, and Society Life Membership. The recipient will be recognized at the 237th ECS biannual meeting in Montreal, Canada which takes place from May 10-15, 2020. The winner will be invited to deliver the de Nora award address on a subject related to his/her contributions to the field. (more…)
