The ECS Corrosion Division Early-Career Award was established in 2024 to recognize contributions by early-career researchers and engineers in the field of corrosion science and technology.
Eligibility criteria
The research scientist or engineer receiving this award meets the following criteria:
- Contributed to the field of corrosion science and technology;
- Maintained ECS Corrosion Division membership for at least two (2) consecutive years prior to nomination;
- Published in an ECS journal;
- Must have initiated their career (i.e., received a technical degree and/or started work as a professional in their field) no more than 10 years prior to the deadline of the award nomination. The 10-year timeline may be extended for special reasons (e.g., parental leave, military service, long-term illness, etc.), which are considered on a case-by-case basis. To maintain confidentiality, submit the extension justification to ECS Awards separately from the nomination packet.
Nomination guidelines
A complete nomination package includes:
- Electronic Nomination Form
- Nomination letter
- Nominee’s CV/resume providing current employment and title; education and graduation dates; publications list; membership and involvement with the Society; awards received; etc.
- Other pertinent information to assist Award Committee members in assessing the candidate.
Unsuccessful nominations are considered for one (1) additional award cycle if eligibility remains. Nominations may be updated.
ECS Corrosion Division Early-Career Award Committee members may not submit nominations or letters of support during their terms of service.
Award
The award consists of:
- Framed certificate;
- USD $1,000;
- Complimentary meeting registration at the designated meeting;
- Possibly up to USD $1,000 toward ECS meeting travel expenses.
Recipient obligations
The award recipient presents a lecture on their research at a designated ECS Corrosion Division fall meeting symposium when the award is presented.
