PRiME 2020 Topic Close-up: High Temperature Corrosion and Materials Chemistry 14

Topic Close-up #4

Symposium C02: High Temperature Corrosion and Materials Chemistry 14

Symposium focus: This symposium will focus on the fundamental thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of high temperature oxidation and corrosion, as well as other chemical reactions involving inorganic materials at high temperatures. Both theoretical and experimental papers are accepted, and contributions from industry and students are especially encouraged. Specifically, presentations on the following topics in the area of oxidation/corrosion are solicited: fundamental mechanisms of high temperature oxidation; reactions in complex environments and/or ultra-high temperatures (>1500°C); and, response of protective coatings in high temperature environments. In the area of high temperature chemistry, papers on the following topics are solicited: thermodynamic property determination; phase equilibria and phase transformations; solid state diffusion; and, volatilization reactions. Fundamental studies of materials interactions in high temperature processing or in power and propulsion are also welcome.

Confirmed invited speakers and tentative presentation titles:

  • Prof. Michihisa Fukumoto, Akita University, “Investigation of High Temperature Oxide Scale Using Chemical Reactor”
  • Dr. Seyedeh Nooshin Mortazavi, Harvard University, “New insights into the formation and failure modes of alumina scales”
  • Dr. Mathias Galetz, DECHEMA, “Degradation of CVD coatings for SiC/SiC CMCs for High-Temperature Aircraft Applications”
  • Prof. Fuhui Wang, Northeastern University and President of the Chinese Corrosion Society, “Oxidation and hot-corrosion resistant nanocrystalline coatings”
  • Prof. Geoffrey Will, Queensland University of Technology, “Materials degradation in Molten Salt Phase Change Materials”
