Z. Jung Fang and Yamin Zhang receive the 2020 ECS Georgia Section Outstanding Student Achievement Awards
Established in 2011, the Georgia Section Outstanding Student Achievement Award recognizes academic accomplishments in any area of science or engineering in which electrochemical and/or solid state science and technology is the central consideration. To qualify, applicants must be (1) students pursuing PhDs at universities in Georgia, (2) nominated by a university faculty member, and (3) ECS members at the time of nomination.
About Jung Fang and Yamin Zhang
Z. Jung Fang is a PhD student in Prof. Tom Fuller’s group at the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). He received his BS degree magna cum laude in Chemical Engineering from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2015. His current research focuses on proton-exchange membrane fuel cell electrodes and ceramic solid state batteries. He has published two first-author papers. Fang served as the elected president of the ECS Georgia Tech Student Chapter from 2017-2019. He received the ECS Georgia Section Student Achievement Award (2020), first place in the ECS Georgia Section Conference Student Poster Contest (2019), Shell Outstanding Teaching Assistant (2018), and Rose-Hulman Leadership Advancement Program Fellowship (2015).
Yamin Zhang is a fifth year PhD student in Prof. Nian Liu’s group at the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech. She received her BS in Chemical Engineering and Technology from Tianjin University in 2016, and BS in Finance from Nankai University in 2016. Her current research is on electrochemistry and battery technology. She has published more than 15 papers. Her selected awards include the 2020 ECS Georgia Section Outstanding Student Achievement Award, Ziegler Best Paper Award (2020), Phillips 66 Graduate Fellowship (2020), STAMI Graduate Student Fellowship (2020), First Place (Poster) in ChBE Graduate Research Symposium (2020), Most Stunning Award in the National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure Image Contest (2019), Outstanding Poster Award at the IEN User Day (2019), and ChBE Exemplary Academic Achievement Award (2017).
ECS recognizes outstanding technical achievements in electrochemistry and solid state science and technology through its Honors & Awards Program. Through honors and awards, the Society highlights scientific contributions made by many deserving members of the ECS scientific community.
