Symposium focus: Hosted by the ECS Europe Section chaired by Prof. Philippe Marcus, the Z03 symposium is directed at early career professionals in electrochemistry and materials science from the geographical region of Europe. The purpose is to facilitate connections between scientists and engineers in the field; introduce calls for research grants, in particular, those requiring teams from several countries; allow time between presentations to learn about participants’ research and projects; and communicate similarities, differences, concerns, and anxieties in seeking to do research across the countries of Europe.

Several keynote speakers are invited, particularly early career professionals receiving prestigious research grants and professionals representing grant institutions or international research consortia. These experts are available during deliberately planned, extended coffee breaks. While it is assumed that symposium participants choose other symposia in their technical interest area for their full papers, an informal opportunity is offered during the workshop for young and early career researchers to highlight their work in two-to-three minute “elevator speeches.” When submitting to other 244th ECS Meeting symposia, please indicate your desire to also be considered in Z03.

Young and early career participation is suggested to mean 35 or younger OR within five years of embarking on a new topic or career track. All Z03 participants are invited to attend the ECS Europe Section reception scheduled on one of the meeting evenings. ECS encourages presenters to submit to the ECS family of journals as an alternate publishing opportunity. Learn more at https://www.electrochem.org/publications.
