“The COVID-19 pandemic, with the compounding crises of faltering economies, social unrest, and science denial on an unimaginable scale, changed virtually every aspect of how we live and work,” said Stefan De Gendt, ECS President, 2020-2021. “Casting aside our best laid plans, the Society was forced to adapt and innovate in order to continue to support, convene, and advocate for our science. Together, we achieved our goals and realized the mission.”

ECS Sensors Plus

The Electrochemical Society (ECS) is seeking candidates to serve as the founding Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of ECS Sensors Plus, a journal in the process of being launched in 2021.

ECS Sensors Plus is a multidisciplinary, open access journal that provides an international platform to publish high-quality impactful articles and promote scholarly communication and interactions among scientists, engineers, and technologists whose primary interests are focused on mechanisms, materials, structures, properties, performance, and characterization of sensing and detection devices and systems, including sensor arrays, networks, and actuators. The goal of ECS Sensors Plus, as a one-stop shop journal for sensors, is to advance the fundamental science and understanding of sensors and detection technologies for efficient monitoring and control of industrial processes and the environment, and improving quality of life and human health.

Ali OthmanAli Othman, PhD, Receives Prestigious Award

Ali Othman, PhD, Research Associate in Clarkson University’s Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Science, received The Electrochemical Society’s prestigious 2021 ECS Colin Garfield Fink Fellowship. The fellowship provides financial assistance for Othman’s research in the months of June through August. His work focuses nanomaterials and the interface chemistry of materials and their bio(sensing) and environmental applications.

“I am truly grateful for the ECS Colin Garfield Fink Fellowship, donors, and committee of the award,” said Dr. Othman. “This fellowship highlights me and allows me to be recognized in the scientific community as well as to focus on my goal and additional educational opportunities. The Electrochemical Society (ECS) announces the awarding of the 2021 ECS Summer Fellowships. These fellowship awards assist students in the months of June through August pursue work of interest to the Society. The recipients must be enrolled in a college or university and a member of ECS. At the end of the award period, the recipients are required to submit a brief resume or abstract suitable for publication in The Electrochemical Society Interface concerning the work performed during the fellowship period.
