It is difficult to focus on events in the near future while the world is concentrating on the daily challenges regaining stability. In recognition of this and the continuing disruption caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, the abstract submission deadline for PRiME 2020 has been extended to May 29, 2020.

The Electrochemical Society, the Electrochemical Society of Japan, and the Korean Electrochemical Society are actively monitoring the global situation while preparing for PRiME 2020. As we strive to balance health and safety with an eventual return to normality, we hope that this extension relieves pressure for submitters. (more…)

We are indeed living in a unique and challenging time in human history. Never before, in the modern age, have we faced a pandemic with such a profound, global impact as COVID-19. Although we are still very much in the initial grip of this unprecedented catastrophe, it is vital—perhaps more than ever before—that we recognize and celebrate Earth Day and its 50th anniversary. Through generous donations from friends, colleagues, and members of the scientific community, the Jan Talbot Collection officially reached a fundraising milestone of $30,000, ensuring free, permanent access to Talbot’s legacy of ECS-published works.

A longtime ECS member, Talbot served as board president (2001-2002), vice president (1998-2001), and editor of Interface (1995-1998). She was inducted as a Fellow of The Electrochemical Society in 2004. Talbot’s career outside ECS is equally impressive. Since 2000, Talbot has directed the Chemical Engineering Program at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Jacobs School of Engineering. She served as their associate dean from 2014-2016. In 2010, she received a UCSD Distinguished Teaching Award. Talbot chaired the Academic Senate from 2003-2004. She also worked as a development engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, TN, from 1975-1981. (more…)

On behalf of the ECS Board of Directors, we are writing to share the news that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic we are faced with the unfortunate, albeit inevitable decision to cancel the 237th Meeting of the Electrochemical Society, scheduled for Montreal, Canada May 10-14. In addition, the collocated International Meeting on Chemical Sensors (IMCS), has voted to postpone their meeting to a date that has yet to be determined. (more…)
