From October 23-29, 2023, The Electrochemical Society (ECS) removes the paywall to the ECS Digital Library, providing world-wide access to all its published content.
As stewards of scientific advancement and one of the world’s oldest technical societies, ECS continues to encourage research, discussion, critical assessment, and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of electrochemistry, solid state science and technology, and allied subjects. By delivering unrestricted availability of science through open access, ECS can better realize its vision to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation and lead the community as the advocate, guardian, and facilitator of our technical domain.

Open Access Week at ECS
When ECS participates in its seventh International Open Access Week, the paywall to over 180,000 journal and magazine articles and meeting abstracts comes down. The ECS Digital Library on IOPscience is free and accessible to everyone that week. Here researchers can retrieve content from the Journal of The Electrochemical Society (the flagship journal of ECS, published continuously since 1902), ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology, ECS Transactions, ECS Meeting Abstracts, Interface, ECS Electrochemistry Letters, ECS Solid State Letters, and Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters. The Society’s two new Gold Open Access journals, ECS Advances and ECS Sensors Plus, are also available.
Community over Commercialization
SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, organizes the global event to focus attention and inspire momentum toward the open sharing of knowledge. 2023 International Open Access Week focuses on “Community over Commercialization” which is an opportunity to join together, take action, and raise awareness around the importance of community control of knowledge sharing systems.
Join SPARC and ECS as we as encourage open access through several programs which include Transformative agreements, membership discounts, and APC waivers for our new Gold Open Access Journals, ECSA and ECSSA, removing the financial barriers to open access publishing.
Free the Science
The Community over Commercialization theme supports ECS’s Free the Science vision to provide open access to all in order to further advance research.
