Q&A with Dr. Paul Kenis

On June 24, 2020, Dr. Paul Kenis, 2020 winner of the Energy Technology Division Research Awardpresented his talk on “Electrochemical CO2 Reduction: Path Towards a Carbon Neutral Chemical Industry?” via a live webinar presentation.

Dr. Kenis’s talk covered a summary of the status of CO2 electrocatalysis, the techno-economic and life-cycle analysis of CO2 electrolysis to identify remaining hurdles, and the prospects of CO2 electrolysis technology contributing to a future sustainable chemical industry.

On June 17, 2020, Dr. Arumugam Manthiram, winner of the 2020 Henry B. Linford Award for Distinguished Teaching, presented his talk on “Intricacies of High-Energy Cathodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries” via a live webinar presentation.

Dr. Manthiram’s talk covered the fundamental science behind the development of high-energy density cathodes for lithium-ion batteries in the 1980s, the richness and complexity of layered oxide cathodes for lithium-ion batteries, and exposure to a perspective on high-energy, long-life, safe lithium-ion batteries.

ECS and IMCS Montreal Meeting Update

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the ECS Board of Directors, we are writing to share the news that in light of the COVID-19 pandemic we are faced with the unfortunate, albeit inevitable decision to cancel the 237th Meeting of the Electrochemical Society, scheduled for Montreal, Canada May 10-14. In addition, the collocated International Meeting on Chemical Sensors (IMCS), has voted to postpone their meeting to a date that has yet to be determined. (more…)

Students: Show Off Your Work

Show off your work at the 237th ECS Meeting with IMCS 2020. Students and early career professionals can present their research at special symposia.

A04 Student Battery Slam 4: Students present ten-minute flash oral presentations on their battery technology work. Awards are given for the three best talks.

Z01 ECS General Student Poster Session: Students deliver oral or poster-form presentations on their research results in electrochemical and solid-state science and technology. A competition for the best posters and papers is part of the session.

The meeting is in Montréal, Canada from May 10-15, 2020. The deadline to submit abstracts is November 15, 2019.
