The Journal of The Electrochemical Society is publishing a focus issue in connection with the Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids 23 (MSIL-23) symposium at the 242nd Meeting of The Electrochemical Society. This is the premier symposium on Molten Salts and Ionic Liquids, and has consistently run a full five days since its inception.

The use of molten salts and ionic liquids has a long tradition in electrochemical processes such as electrodeposition, energy storage and conversion, etc. As the third in a series, this focus issue covers the following molten salts and ionic liquids topics: (more…)

In 2022, ECS divisions and sections provided $106,295 in funding to assist students, postdocs, and early career researchers participate in ECS biannual meetings.

We thank the ECS divisions and sections, as well as our generous donors who supported the biannual meeting travel grant program. Congratulations to the recipients of their support.

Congratulations to Seiji Ichikawa, Daichi Yasufuku, Ryosuke Nishiizumi, and Weijie Cao

Dr. Lyons congratulates Seiji Ichikawa, 1st place winner.

The Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells & Electrolyzers 22 (PEFC&E 22) symposium at the 242nd ECS Meeting hosted its annual student poster competition on October 10, 2022. Some 30 students submitted posters to the competition. Dr. James (Jim) Fenton led the group of senior fuel cell and electrolysis researchers, which judged the posters for technical content and visual presentation.

ECS and PEFC&E 22 thank the Office of Naval Research, the competition’s funder. A total of USD $3,000 was awarded for four prizes. Join Dr. Karen Swider Lyons, PEFC&E 22 symposium chair, in congratulating the winners!

The Journal of The Electrochemical Society is publishing a focus issue in connection with the Frontiers of Chemical/Molecular Engineering in Electrochemical Energy Technologies 2 symposium being held in honor of Professor Robert Savinell’s 70th Birthday at the 242nd ECS Meeting.

The focus issue deals and the connected symposium address current and emerging ideas in electrocatalysis, electrolytes, and device design for fuel cells and flow batteries. Topics include molecular-level understanding of small-molecule electrocatalysis (including hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon- and nitrogen-containing molecules such as alcohols, ammonia, urea, carbon dioxide, and others); membranes and electrolytes including additives, nanoparticles, and deep eutectic chemistries; redox-active molecules; and new concepts in fuel cells and flow batteries. Contributions from both theory and experiment are welcome. Studies that connect molecular-level understanding to macroscopic electrochemical technologies are of particular interest. (more…)
