New ECS Battery Division Award Honors Nobel Laureate M. Stanley Whittingham
Posted on March 26, 2024 by Genevieve GoldyThe ECS Honors and Awards Program and the ECS Battery Division proudly announce the creation of the new ECS Battery Division M. Stanley Whittingham Mid-Career Award recognizing mid-career achievement and contributions to the field of electrochemical energy storage.
When the pandemic caused the cancellation of a PRiME 2020 event honoring his winning the Nobel prize, Dr. Whittingham requested that donations to the event be used for an award. The Battery Division Early M. Stanley Whittingham Mid-Career Award is partially funded through these donations. (more…)

ECS San Diego Student Chapter & ECS San Francisco Section Host “An Odyssey Through the Uncharted Waters of Post Lithium-Ion Batteries”
Posted on November 15, 2023 by Jennifer TarantinoJoin the ECS San Diego Student Chapter and the ECS San Francisco Section for Dr. John Muldoon’s November 17, 2023, presentation, “An Odyssey Through the Uncharted Waters of Post Lithium-Ion Batteries.”
Abstract
Advanced energy storage technologies such as lithium-ion batteries have enabled the development of ubiquitous portable electronic devices and are critical to the development and widespread adoption of practical electric vehicles. While lithium-ion batteries represent the most advanced energy storage technology currently available commercially, the desire for significant improvement in energy density and cost has led to a strong interest in so-called “beyond lithium-ion” batteries such as sodium, lithium-air, lithium-sulfur, multivalent batteries, and solid-state batteries. In this talk, I guide you on an odyssey toward post li-ion batteries. We travel through the peaks and valleys of multivalent, lithium-sulfur, and all-solid-state batteries. (more…)
North American Workforce Needs Assessment Seeks Li-ion Industry Feedback
Posted on October 26, 2023 by ECS StaffThe Center for Automotive Research (CAR) is conducting the Workforce Skills Assessment of the North American Lithium Ion (Li) Battery Industry in October and November 2023. CAR seeks input from individuals and companies to provide important insights about the skills and training needs for current and future employees.
The assessment’s goal is to gain a better understanding of the evolving employment needs within companies across the battery industry and identify any skills gaps that may be supported by further training and education.
Feedback from knowledgeable individuals is needed. Please click here to access the assessment.* Submissions are accepted until November 3 at 1700h EST.
Interested in the battery field? Check out these exciting battery and related topic symposia scheduled for the 245th ECS Meeting in San Francisco, CA, from May 26-30, 2024. Submit your abstract and join us!
Abstract deadline: December 1, 2023
