ECS participates in its seventh International Open Access Week from October 24-30, bringing down the paywall to over 171,000 journal and magazine articles and meeting abstracts. The ECS Digital Library on IOPscience is free and accessible to everyone that week. SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, organizes the annual global event to focus attention and inspire momentum toward the open sharing of knowledge.
IOP announces a significant investment in the range of ECS Digital Library on IOP Science features. The investment is part of ECS’s and IOP’s commitment to ensuring the platform’s functionality, accessibility, performance, and security. In the coming weeks, to modernise and improve the platform, a small number of features will be temporarily unavailable with some withdrawn completely where usage is low or alternatives are available. This is necessary to replace old technologies with modern, secure, scalable cloud services with improved functioning and reliability. (more…)
ECS is set to participate in its sixth International Open Access Week, an annual event organized by SPARC, the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition. From October 25-31, ECS will take down the paywall to the entire ECS Digital Library, making over 165,000 scientific articles and abstracts free and accessible to everyone.
This year’s theme, “It Matters How We Open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity,” supports ECS’s long-term vision of Free the Science by providing access to all in order to further advance the research—and echoes the Society’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in scholarly publication. The research published in ECS’s publications directly addresses the sustainability of the planet. Electrochemistry and solid state science continue to hold the keys to innovation in renewable energy, biomedical applications, water and sanitation, communications, transportation, technology, infrastructure, and beyond. In celebration of its third annual Free the Science Week (April 1-7, 2019), the Society once again took down the paywall to the entire ECS Digital Library. For the duration of the week, readers had unrestricted access to more than 151,000 scientific articles and abstracts.
This successful weeklong event produced swells in ECS page visits and content usage that attest to the enduring relevance and value of the Free the Science initiative.
Sushanta Mitra, lead author, mechanical and mechatronics engineering professor at the University of Waterloo, and executive director of the Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology.
“There are a lot of sensors that have been made, a lot of reliable sensors which work really well independently; however, the decision-making always requires a human,” said Ajit Khosla, sensors technical editor of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society (JES) and chair of The Electrochemical Society’s Sensor Division. Which is why the paper, “Artificial Intelligence Based Mobile Application for Water Quality Monitoring” piqued Khosla’s interest in particular.
“AI powered sensors are the future.”
“This is the first time that we have received and accepted a journal paper which involves artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, water quality management, and sensors,” said Khosla. “This work represents an example of one of those initial steps towards a smart technology driven sustainable society where data acquired by sensors helps AI make human-like decisions or human-like operations. Quantum sensors, quantum computing, and AI will transform the way we live and will play an integral role in achieving sustainability and a sustainable world. Here are some tips for navigating the digital library’s more than 151,000 articles and abstracts—and making the most of the week of free access.
During International Open Access Week 2018 (October 22-28), an event organized by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), the Society took down the paywall to the ECS Digital Library for the fourth consecutive year, making over 141,000 scientific articles and abstracts free and accessible to everyone.
