In this time of relative isolation from professional colleagues and friends, CorroZoom seeks to build and maintain a worldwide community of scientists with mutual interests in the area of corrosion science. The webinar series is free to everyone in the world. CorroZoom is not associated with any professional organization or society. An informal organizing committee selected the speakers. On June 24, 2020, Dr. Paul Kenis, 2020 winner of the Energy Technology Division Research Award, presented his talk on “Electrochemical CO₂ Reduction: Path Towards a Carbon Neutral Chemical Industry?” via a live webinar presentation.

Dr. Kenis’s talk covered a summary of the status of CO₂ electrocatalysis, the techno-economic and life-cycle analysis of CO₂ electrolysis to identify remaining hurdles, and the prospects of CO₂ electrolysis technology contributing to a future sustainable chemical industry.

On June 17, 2020, Dr. Arumugam Manthiram, winner of the 2020 Henry B. Linford Award for Distinguished Teaching, presented his talk on “Intricacies of High-Energy Cathodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries” via a live webinar presentation.

Dr. Manthiram’s talk covered the fundamental science behind the development of high-energy density cathodes for lithium-ion batteries in the 1980s, the richness and complexity of layered oxide cathodes for lithium-ion batteries, and exposure to a perspective on high-energy, long-life, safe lithium-ion batteries.

On May 18, the ECS San Francisco Section presented Distinguished Seminar speaker Dr. Shirley Meng via Zoom to present her talk “Li Metal Anode – Advanced Characterization for Next Generation Energy Storage Materials.” The Zoom presentation was a great success, quickly reaching its maximum capacity of 300, and leaving those many participants unable to attend asking how they could later access the content.
