ECS’s mission is to advance theory and practice at the forefront of electrochemical and solid state science and technology, and allied subjects by encouraging research, discussion, critical assessment, and dissemination of knowledge in these fields. Most recently, the Army Research Office, an element of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Laboratory, contributed $5,000 to the 19th Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells & Electrolyzers 19 (PEFC&E-19) symposium taking place at the 236th ECS Meeting.
The Society is proud to work with the ARO, whose mission, like ECS’s, is to support innovative scientific discoveries. ARO does this in part by supporting symposia and conferences that provide an exchange of ideas in areas of Army interest, but primarily, ARO funds basic scientific research to drive cutting-edge and disruptive scientific discoveries that will provide the Army with significant advances to ensure the nation’s technological superiority through high-risk, high pay-off research opportunities.
“Army Research Office is providing funding to support the 19th Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Symposium as the one of the foremost gatherings of fuel cell scientists to present and discuss cutting edge research results,” said Robert Mantz, ARO division chief of the chemical sciences division. “Fuel cells represent a key technology to reduce logistical burden associated with powering military systems and to enable new future capabilities.”
