ECS seeks Programs SpecialistReports to: Director of Community Engagement
Classification: Full-Time Exempt
MAJOR FUNCTION
Responsible for the support and development of community engagement programs and support of other various ECS programs and activities. Coordinates participation and execution of 1) section and student chapter programs 2) student membership program; 3) education and professional development workshops and 4) student and section engagement throughout the Society. Serves as staff liaison for section and student chapter relations and works closely with the staff and volunteer leaders to ensure that these relationships support the Society’s goals and objectives. ECS recently lost a devoted, accomplished member, and a cherished friend. Robert Frankenthal passed away on Wednesday, September 18.
Bob held many posts and positions within the Corrosion Division and the Society itself, serving as chair of Pittsburgh Section (1963–64), Corrosion Division chair (1980–1982), and ECS President (1993–1994). He also received numerous awards and honors, including winning the Corrosion Division H. H. Uhlig Award in 1989 and becoming a Fellow of The Electrochemical Society in 1995.

Submit your manuscripts to the Journal of The Electrochemical Society‘s Focus Issue on Challenges in Novel Electrolytes, Organic Materials, and Innovative Chemistries for Batteries in Honor of Michel Armand.
This focus issue of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society is devoted to the novel electrolytes, organic materials, and innovative chemistries for batteries. This issue is inspired by the work of Michel Armand, Emeritus Researcher at French CNRS, and presently working at CIC-Energigune in Spain and at Deakin University in Australia. Armand, after ushering the intercalation concept, has led the community with outstanding and inspiring contributions to the field of battery electrochemistry with major industrial applications. Armand’s most important renown findings are solid state polymer electrolytes for Li Metal Polymer batteries now commercialized, new highly conductive salt families like LiTFSI (commercialized) and LiFSI for advanced electrolytes, and carbon-nanopainting of LiFePO4 leading to wide-scale commercialization of this olivine in EV and grid storage batteries. Session chairs serve as an integral role in the ECS meetings. We try our best to encourage early-career risers, post-grads, and young authors to get involved in the meetings by acting as session chairs. Although this is a volunteer-based program, it is a great networking opportunity, as it puts you in front of other scientists, engineers, and researchers sharing their work.

A message from The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
In 1933, ten years after winning the Nobel Prize, Neils Bohr lectured on the importance of applying the principles of physics to the field of biology and living organisms. Over the last several decades, the field of biophysics has generated incredible discoveries, from helping scientists understand the structures of molecules inside of a cell, to predicting and replicating the mechanical movements of large mammals.
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is undertaking a decadal survey of biophysics that will evaluate the current state of the field and identify important future research directions. This study, funded by the National Science Foundation, will serve as a guide for federal agencies and academic leadership as they make decisions regarding biophysics funding, workforce, and research portfolios.
