ECS will host its second Free the Science Week April 2-8, 2018, allowing free access to the research content in the ECS Digital Library including the Journal of The Electrochemical Society and the ECS Journal of Solid State Science and Technology. That means access and free downloads to over 141,000 articles and abstracts including ECS Transactions.
The first Free the Science Week was a success. Below are some of the statistics about the ECS Digital Library from April 2017:

ECS’s Free the Science Week is more than just a week of free scientific paper downloads, it’s a celebration and commitment to making all science open science, discoverable for everyone. Through Free the Science ECS is leading its field in the open science and open access scholarly communication movements.
Interested in getting involved this year? Below are the ways you can participate!
- Download – Visit the ECS Digital Library and start downloading any of the content in the library for free starting April 2.
- Share with your colleagues – Tell your friends and colleagues about downloading FREE research April 2-8! Information is meant to be disseminated to everyone, so make sure all the researchers and curious people in your life know about this opportunity.
- Tell the world #freethescience – The best way to get information out about Free the Science Week is to share the information on social media. Make a post on LinkedIn, tweet about it on Twitter, or tell your friends on Facebook. Be sure to use the hashtag: #freethescience.
- Stay in the loop – Even after Free the Science Week is over, make sure you’re in the know about all of our upcoming events and the latest open access news by subscribing to our Free the Science newsletter.
- Donate – Our goal is to make our research completely open access. However, as a nonprofit scientific publisher, the cost of highly reputable, peer-reviewed, and accessible research isn’t free. Donate to ECS’s Free the Science campaign to help move us one step closer to making all of our research open access.
We hope that you take advantage of the free access to our science for the week. If you have any questions please reach out to freethescience@electrochem.org.
